Membership in the KDT is free, but there is a screening process for becoming a Knight. Most members of the KDT become Knights on the basis of the recommendations of other KDT members, but one can also become a Knight by proving oneself worthy through a member selection process.
he Knights of the Dumb Table is a Forum for Notre Dame Football Fans whose members embrace certain common principles. Among these is the recognition that any person who regularly consumes time posting on an Internet sports forum thereby exhibits certain cognitive deficits, which properly qualify such misguided individuals as being characterized as "Dumb." The Knights of the Dumb Table ("KDT"), however, stand above and apart from the legions of other moronic sports forum posters by virtue of the following distinguishing characteristics:
While admittedly dumb, the KDT endeavor to display their dumbness with a certain level of style and intelligence not often seen among sports forum posters, who largely remain unaware of the personal defects that cause them to engage in such an inane activity.
Disagreement and jousting among Knights is to be expected as a common feature of their dumbness, and those Knights who wish to battle on the Field of Honor should be prepared to receive and deliver blows that are proportional to the form of combat they may choose to adopt. There are many acceptable forms of combat, including sarcasm, pretentious logic, and the art of insult, to name a few. A Knight who voluntarily partakes in combat should never cower or complain of the wounds or scars that may result from such jousting. Combat is nonetheless a voluntary undertaking that is not a requirement of KDT membership. Where a KDT member is averse to some or all forms of combat, such “high-road” attitudes are respected and defended on the KDT. An honest and true opinion will always find a Champion among jousting Knights, where members otherwise wish to avoid direct participation in such Games.
Finally, membership in the KDT is distinguished by the allegiance its Knights swear to the standards, ethics and principles of the University of Notre Dame, as well as the advancement and success of the University’s football team specifically and her athletic programs generally. Much to the dismay of other college football fans, Notre Dame is indeed in a class of her own in combining the pursuit of athletic excellence with steadfast faithfulness to her high academic, ethical and moral standards. Furthermore, the continued devotion of the KDT to Notre Dame Football during an extended period of limited success is further attestation to the special character of these Dumb Knights, who stand together proudly.
